We were just going through a bunch of my great-grandparents' old things from when they were alive, and we found a rosary box, wooden, cross on top, with the words "My Rosary" on top and "Wildwood N.J." printed on the front. When we opened it up, we found seven or eight rosaries, all really nice, most of them are metal or glass beads, and all have incredible detail on the crucifix. When we looked some of them up, they turned out to be really valuable, but the price range we found was so wide, we don't really know what a good price for them would be. Now, these belonged to my great-grandmother and great-grandfather, and while some of them come from my father's time as an altar boy, others could be much much older. Like, really much older.
And I know we're going to take a lot of heat for this, but before anyone thinks we're trying to capitalize on religious artifacts, we're not just trying to turn a profit. My grandfather's house fell into disrepair after my grandmother died, because he wanted to keep everything the way it was. He only let us renovate when it was an absolute necessity. As a result of this, the cost of renovating the house has become extremely high, and my grandfather's wishes would be that we sell his things to help lower the cost of renovation. But the house is absolutely full of religious Iconography (Madonnas, pictures of Jesus, Rosaries, Crucifixes, an inexplicable cross-section of a log with Jesus pained on it, Holy Cards) and none of us are nearly religious enough to need that much religious paraphernalia. We'd rather sell it to someone who needs it more, and if it can cut the costs of renovation by a few hundred or even thousand dollars, then we're fine with selling it.
But yea, if you have any advice on pricing for Rosaries, Madonnas, Pictures of Jesus, and Holy cards from the late 1800s and early 1900s, we have a whole house full of them and not enough money to fix up the house itself.
Thanks!
I would appreciate it, people who feel the need to tell me I've committed some horrible sin, if you stayed off the question. If I asked "Have I sinned for wanting to sell those rosaries?" then sure, I'd want your feedback, but really, I don't. What I do with my religious Idols is between me and God. And I am one hundred percent sure that God would rather my family have a roof over our heads than for us to have a couple of strings of beads with an idol at the bottom. I don't need snarky comments, what I need is an answer to my question. This is just preliminary research, I just wanted to know a ballpark amount.
To the girl who advised me to check with my catholic church, Thanks! I would actually choose that as best answer, but the site won't let me choose best answers for some reason.
And to anyone who's going to try to tell me I'm a sinner for selling a rosary, the Bible tells me to worship god, not rosaries. What I do in the privacy of my own soul is not up for discussion here.
I've talked this over with the god I believe in. He's cool with it.
Oh, and to that guy who keeps coming on my posts and making snarky comments? Matthew 7:1 "Judge not, that ye be not judged."
You couldn't give one to me.

I need a good online site that isnt too costly. Hopfully with a box that wont say "rosary's" on the out side (my parents dont like catholics and i live with them) any suggestions?
ebay, amazon, etc.
What are some good, strong, long lasting materials that I can use to make a rosary. A rosary that will be getting alot of use and not one that will just sit in a box, I want one that I can carry in my pocket, wear and use.
www.rosaryshop.com has all the parts to make a rosary just not sure what would be the best to choose?
If you know lot about jewelry please check out my other questions thanks
Thanks for your time Hope you have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
(note please answer this question like a mature adult this question is not about should I pray the rosary ,but how to make one. Thank You)
I just joined last Easter and I have one that is kind of Fancy, but I actually prefer the one that my sponsor made for me.
It is made out of a Colored thread, about 1/8" in diameter, they then tied knots for the Prayers and even tied somehow to make the Cross.
It can go through the Washer, fits in any pocket, does not rattle, it means more to me also because of who made it.
I will look for a link on how it was made and post if I can find it!
God Bless, and have a Merry Christmas!

Well I actually found this rosary sort of thing a few months ago. I put it into my jewelry box and just forgot about it. It's basically ten blue beads on a string with a silver disc with an image of St. Therese on it. I found it outside my school one day when I was waiting for the bus to come take me home. I am a Christian, but I am not Catholic, so I don't know what to do with this thing since I haven't asked saints to pray for me before. What is the significance of me finding it, and what should I do with it?
Uh well see the problem with me going and dropping it off at a church is that there are only 2 churches near my neighborhood, neither one is Catholic, and also(and I am sorry for this people I really am) I haven't been to church in a few years because the people at the last church I went to had like popularity contests to be the best friends of the new pastor. So my family just stopped going. I still read my Bible and speak with the Father, so I'm still Christian regardless of going to church or not. Um basically my point is that the whole dropping it off at church thingy isn't quite going to work. Sorry.
You were chosen to find it. I believe everything is in God's Divine Order. You know how we have our Guardian Angels? I think we have a special saint to guide us through prayer to be blessed in this life and strengthen our faith. You said it has like 10 beads? That means you do one Our Father and 10 Hail Mary's, and ask ( pray ) for what ever you want and with your faith you will accomplish it.
I went into my attic for the first time today and found a box with a bunch of crap in it from the old owners. Among many things was an old *broken* rosary.
I was going to just throw it into the garbage however my Catholic girlfriend implored me not to, yet she had no alternative to offer me.
So... What is the proper, respectful way to dispose of a broken rosary?
And by broken I mean completely beyond repair. Many parts of the chain are broken, quite a few of the plastic beads are melted (even some fused together) and it's missing the crucifix.
Sacramentals -- blessed items set apart for devotional purposes -- are properly disposed of in two ways: Burning them, or burying them (by themselves, not along with other things). If you are able to do either without much trouble, then that takes care of it. If not, give it to your Catholic friend and ask her to take it to the rectory or parish office of her church and request disposal. I'm surprised she didn't offer to do so herself.

Barry’s birthday was one of the nights that Barry and I enjoy most of all.
A celebration. All the kids. All the grandkids.
And an angel.
It has been rainy and unseasonably cool in New England this week, but Barry’s “back deck” birthday party went beautifully well. It didn’t rain. It was warm enough for short sleeves. And there’s nothing quite like burgers and dogs on the grill and then a birthday cake with candles to enthrall 9 grandchildren.
And one special angel. Flo.
Flo came to us at Barry’s celebration in so many ways. One way was through her wedding band. From the moment I first met Flo, I admired her wedding band. It is sterling silver with little engravings that have almost all worn off over the decades that she wore it. She told me many times that it is all Barry’s father could afford when they were married. She cherished that wedding band. It is unusually wide, which looked rather glamourous on her very slim fingers. Several years ago, on my wedding anniversary, Flo gave her wedding band to me as a gift. I was so touched and honored at this message of love to me. I, too, have a sterling silver wedding band. It is all we could afford when Barry and I were married, and I cherish it today as much as I did the day Barry slipped it on my finger. It cost $32.00 and I still wear it today. I have never taken it off.
