i have a project that i need to write a article on a catholic saint, can you please tell me Informationn about a saint, NO INTERNET LINKS PRETTY PLEASE :)
St. John Nepomucene is a good one. He was the private confessor to the queen. The queen and king had a poor marriage, and around 1393 the king asked Fr John what the queen had said in Confession. He followed the Seal and rightly refused. He was thrown in prison, bribed, and tortured, and he still refused to tell him the queen's confession. Finally, he was finally thrown into a river and drowned. In the place he drowned, a light appeared in the river.
Last Saturday at a Christian youth concert, I got interviewed by the Catholic newspaper which is published every Friday. Tomorrow it comes out (The date says it's published for Friday, but we get it on Thursdays) and I am nervous to see what parts of my interview they put in. I did an awesome interview, but I'm afraid it's going to come out corny. Also, is it good to feel good about yourself when people compliment about it?
That's really cool. Is it the National Catholic Register?
Anyways, yes I have been interviewed, once. I was in 3rd grade and it was about our "Word Parade" where we all dressed up as a word. I didn't get put in though because I was nervous and made no sense at all.
what are some strong arguments to make against a catholic school's administration prohibiting the student newspaper from presenting bi-partisan FACTS about the election to the student body? They can censor us because it's private, so what arguments do we use? Their primary problem is with Obama's stance on abortion (and even though McCain won the mock election they won't let us print the results because the topic is "sensitive." Help?!
I wont get thrown out. We are not endorsing a candidate, and therefore there is no trouble to be made. the only time there is trouble is when they make it by censoring us! It's a problem because they tell us this on the day our articles are due, had no problem with the first issue article on sarah palin, and our entire centerspread was election coverage!
I found it difficult to surmise from your question what specifically was censored by school authorities, and so I will address the general question of censorship.
The claim that all censorship is wrong is an erroneous assumption because censorship means culling worthwhile material from material that is not worthwhile. School officials act "in loco parentis," which means that they act in place of parents in running the school. This would include considering sensitive topics.
For example, I doubt that school officials would allow a full-color illustration of an aborted baby on page one, even though it would be accurate information and consistent with the school's pro-life policies.
People who supposedly present "bipartisan facts" during an election often state false factual claims put out by political campaigns and echoed by big media, which is overwhelmingly pro-Obama. It is reasonable for a newspaper advisor to err on the side of caution.
Cheers,
Bruce
Fellow Catholics, I thought you'd be interested in knowing that the newspaper of Columbus, Ohio, The Columbus Dispatch, is publishing a six day series all this week about life in a Roman Catholic seminary and the experiences of a seminarian as he reflects upon God's call to the priesthood. I've been reading the series as it is published day by day; and I think you all would be very interested in reading it as well.
The articles are published online at http://www.dispatch.com/thecall/
The articles are put on the website daily as to align with the newspaper. Today is day 4 of 6.
And to keep this question within the community guidelines...
What do you think about the series? Would you say it gives an accurate portrayal of the experiences of seminarians and our Church?
By the way... if you are clicked on this question simply because you saw it as an opportunity to bigot against Catholics, please leave. If you are here for any reason other than to comment on the newspaper series, I will treat your answer as spam an take actions accordingly.
The link I've posted above doesn't seem to be working.
This one should definitely work:

I'm glad to see that they're showing so much of the reality of what goes on in a seminary, how most priests are really just regular guys who happen to hear the call from God to serve Him and His church.
I also like the positive spin it puts on celibacy for priests. It really is something far too many lay-people, especially non-Catholics, don't understand, that it really is a gift, a call from God, and something freely chosen.
Something I've found interesting was mentioned in, I think, the second part of the series, that a lot of people think that seminaries are havens for homosexual behavior. It's interesting because people don't thinnk the same thing about frat houses, and it's really the same type of situation: a bunch of men living together while studying for a degree to answer their particular calling.
I'm glad to see that we are seeing more new priests, and I hope that even more young men will answer the call. We truly need more new priests, especially since, as the article said, the number of American Catholics has gone up by 46%. (And to think, the numbers in Protestant denominations have been DROPPING, according to an article I read in USA Today. Catholicism is the only denomination with rising numbers.)

Is the Devil Behind Media News Coverage Regarding the Pope#39;s ...
There has always been a lingering degree of anti-Catholicism in some quarters of the media, for a variety of reasons, some with roots deep in American history, which I've written about at length in America magazine. The media also gets things dead wrong at times, even in factual reporting -- especially when reporters new to the religion beat don't have a clue about the way that the Catholic Church functions. There are also op-ed writers and columnists who seem never to have a good word to say about the Catholic Church, even in the best of times. Snotty comments from pundits who know zero about celibacy are useless; misinformed asides from journalists who know little about the Vatican are unhelpful; and mean-spirited stereotypes from otherwise thoughtful writers about all priests, all sisters,...

"TORONTO, March 26, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Catholic Register, published out of Canada’s largest diocese, has denounced Development and Peace for its document, revealed by LifeSiteNews on March 17, that disparaged LifeSiteNews, Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) and the international pro-life movement in general. The Register also published a report by Deborah Gyapong in the same edition that included comments by D&P executive director Michael Casey confirming that D&P did in fact send to D&P stakeholders the harshly worded document that Casey said was "regrettably, unfortunately" made public. The Register lead editorial, titled "Poor Judgement" and dated March 25 on its website, states, "D&P seems to have lost its way. How else to explain its bizarre document recently...
