My grandpa had a stroke and was taken off of dialysis last week. My family is trying to plan things now as much as can be planned before he passes..mom asked me to do a reading at his funeral and I am trying to get some ideas because I want to find the perfect one. Do any of you have any suggestions? So far I have Revelation 21 (1-7) and 1 Thessalonians 4.13-end in mind. Thank you all in advance.
There are many readings available from the New Testament that are appropriate for comforting and consoling the family and friends. Below are a few of our favourites:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-11: This reading focuses on how there is a time for everything - a time to be born and a time to die.
Isaiah 40:1-11: This reading focuses on bringing comfort.
Wisdom 3:1-9: This reading is about how the dead are in peace. Readings From the New Testament
Below are a few of our favourite Catholic Funeral Readings from the New Testament:
Romans 14:7-9, 10c-12: No one lives for oneself and no one dies for oneself...
2 Corinthians 4:14-5:1: This funeral reading speaks about how we have eternal shelter in heaven.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18: This reading is about how we should not grieve but instead take comfort that we are always with the Lord.
The first reading should be from the old, and the second from the new, the priest will say the third.

I'm looking for some suggestions for readings at a Catholic funeral. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The Daily Missal or the Order of the Mass give suggested readings and you can never go wrong with that. But you can always find passages in the bible about death of loved ones, the end days from the book of Revelation with responsorial psalm from the De profundis and second reading from one of Paul's epistles.
My husband has to do a reading for his Grandmothers funeral this week. He has been researching and just can't find anything fitting. Does anyone have any ideas for readings? We are at a loss she was so specia to him that we need something really special. Thank You

Actually, the Priest will have this completely under control.
We do not rant biblical verses out of context only to confuse people.
Having a formal and authentic Funeral/Mass is a gift!

If the "funeral" is a Requiem Mass....yes...there is a proper Old Testament, Epistle and Gospel lesson.
If it's a mere memorial service or a simple graveside service...I allow other poems or readings all of the time.
