Get a Douay Rheims Bible, its know as the Catholic Bible, anything else is either protestant or a novous ordo piece of crap (Which is basically the exact same), It could cost you around $50.00 but worth every cent, in fact the other bibles (Protsant and Novous Ordo) have 7 less books of the bible, here is a website for the bible itself and the bible on sale:

Hello, Last Sunday when I went to Mass, the Priest encouraged us all to join a prayer group for the six weeks of Lent. Although all of my family is Catholic, we are all 'in a fog' about it and don't attend Church as often as we should (my husband and I go about once a month, my family goes, well lets say they go less then that...) I think part of the reason is that we really do not understand Altot of what is going on.
For Lent this year I am going to try my hardest to have my family come over each Wednesday for dinner, starting with Ash Wednesday, to have a small Bible Study that we can understand. Do you have any pointers that I can use? Like I said, we arebeginnerss! We know about the Father, The Son and the Holly Spirit, and we know the basics like Jesus died on the Cross for us and for our salvation. We know basic prayers like Our Father and the Hail Mary, but I just want us to be able to go to the next step and to be able to do this as a yearly family tradition.
It is going to take some work to get some family members to commit to this, but I really have my heart set on this. Any ideas on how to not make this too 'boring' for them as well?
Oh, and to make this even tougher all of my family is Hispanic. They all know English fluently but I think they would be morecomfortablee if it was in Spanish. I can speak it andunderstandd it well but am NOT good at reading orwritingg it, but for this I will try my best.
Thank you for all of your help, God Bless.
I heard lots of good things about this Catholic bible study -

I received an email this morning from Amazon.com stating that this Bible was now available, however, the Saint Mary's Press website says that it will be released in June. In either case, there seems to be a push from Catholic Bible publishers to produce more attractive "family" editions of the Bible, perhaps as opposed to those large heirloom Bibles that too few people actually use. I teach Scripture at a local Catholic high school, along with doing ministry work to youth and young adults. In May of 2009, I finished up graduate theology studies and was awarded the S.T.B. degree. The S.T.B. is an ecclesiastical degree conferred by the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome (Angelicum) through the faculty of Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. Not Sure How To Tell My Family Im An Atheist…? | day trading
I think you should tell your family just straight out. don’t do it at a holiday gathering or anything, but just sit your parents (or whoever) down and explain it to them. i liked the other poster’s suggestion that you not let things get heated and just slip away saying you do not want to argue (if it gets to that point). I would also suggest studying the history of religions so you have a thorough background knowledge of the subject. Then when someone tries to convert you can throw them off and even surprise them by knowing more about the subject than they do. It doesn’t take much effort. Few church goers actually study their religious texts or even know them very well.
Atheism comes from idolatry. It sounds like your family’s narrow understanding of God is pushing you to reject God altogether when maybe you are only rejecting their narrow understanding. You probably became vegetarian for moral reasons which means you cannot really be an atheist. You see God/the-universe/multiverse/omniverse or whatever in a different way than they do, but you love them and they mean a lot to you. Focus on what you have in common. If I were you, I’d ask if this house was burning, what would I save. Most of us would save family (including pets) and pictures. These people and our relationships with them are the most important things to us. And at the time the house is burning, it doesn’t matter if you’re baptist or atheist, vegetarian or carnivorous. What matters is the love you have for one another. I want them to accept who I am but our distant cousins who are agnostic are kind of disconnected from the family and not very well respected. Family is very important to me and I would be crushed if I lost them. I feel like my ideas, values and beliefs are an important part of who I am and I want to be able to share that with my family. . I’m not sure if it would do much good though…but I want to be myself..how would you broach this subject?
