It's the one on the alter that the priest uses. Also are their any other books used within the roman catholic church that has special prayers, beatitudes and other information?

breviary -a small daily prayer book (usually protected within a black zipped-leather jacket) every priest and seminarian has one.. sometimes called: the liturgy of the hours.

"oremus" -a prayer/songbook used in church mass

-pater noster
-credo in deum
-agnus dei

That has the all the common prayers said in private devotions and the masses of all the seasons? Does it have the "script" for baptisms, weddings, confirmations and all other services included? Or would the closest thing be the book of common prayer? Is there a difference?

yes there are many many many common prayer books out there. go to any catholic book store and they are sure to have at least one.


as for the second part of your question

perhaps it's a missal you are looking for ...?

they are printed out each year and contain all the reading and such that will be use at each Mass throughout the upcoming year.
again a Catholic bookstore can help you out



you also might be able to find a Church that has a little library section where all these books are available for borrowing

i need a prayer book containing all 2000 something catholic prayers. i found one a while ago and i can't remember the site name.

It's not that i cant pray on my own. It's just that i like to have references when i pray. i was on a site that had mostly all of them variations of the original and versions other churches say. -___-; the thing is the site caused my computer to not response on that site... (library computer) and i believe the site had the same prayers and invocations in latin as well.

i just want to end all confusion on my part. i'm tired of searching but that doesn't mean i give up. i just nee a push in the right direction.

try http://www.ewtnrelgiouscatalogue.com you may be able to find what you need there but as for one book containing all the prayers i don't know if that exists just yet :) if not you can be the one to get it published :)

It has what appears to be a really old embossed leather cover with brass and mother of pearl flowers and a cross. Really beautiful book. I can't find a date on it, thought someone might know the era it came from. Thanks
I can't read german but on the first page it does have the name Wilhelm Nakatenus, S.J.

Without seeing the book I couldn't say for sure, but if the printing in it is of the 'Fraktur' type - ornate Gothic style script that is difficult to read - it is at least 100 years old if not more.

If it is a Catholic book it may have the name of the Pope who was reigning at the time it was published so that would give you an approximate clue as to the date.
