outdoor religious statues

I'm writing a book about outdoor statues, monuments, and public art that have been destroyed for reasons other than random violence. This can be anywhere in the world and in any period of time. All suggestions gratefully appreciated. I can do the research if you can suggest any events you may have read about or, even better, seen.
I've already worked on the Buddhas of Bamiyan, the Saddam Hussein Statue and the Geroge III statue in NYC...

What about the statues of Lenin in the Eastern block after 1989?

Edit: an afterthought. Many statues were also destroyed in France during the French revolution, such as bronze statues of monarchs that were used to make canons, but also to erase all symbols of monarchy.
