to JESUS. If worshiping her in the cadre of Mother of Jesus, even in a idol or statue shape also, why you hate them? I feel the Catholics are more purified people. Why not follow their way?
Just imagine without Mary's giving milk to Jesus, without serving him with all patience when he was months old, without taking utmost care like eye-lid, how jesus grown? She must the first to respect.
Perhaps it is because most people are misinformed.
I am a Roman Chatolic. We do not worship Mary as we do Jesus, who is one part of the holy Triity. We venrate her or hold her in the highest possible respect. We do not pray to her as we do to Jesus. We ask ask her to interven for us. We do not worship the statue of Mary, we use is a visual learning tool. Just as most religons use the picture of Jesus and the the concived image of God.
Thank you for the your opinion of Catholic. You are obiously a good Christian.
A little boy in Italy named Antonino taped it with his cell phone. He is very ill and cannot walk properly. The Blessed Virgin Mary has been ...
its what I undrestand, or percieve to be - is this the case ?
I hear that Madonna (mary, mother of Jesus) is revered highly by Catholics across the world, and that the Protestant church prohibits or discourages idolatry of any sort, if it can be helped - hence why they only have plain crosses (without a crucified Jesus on them) and NO statues of Mary.
This is my general belief or understanding or 'how i see it to be'.
am i more or less right ? or am i wrong here ?
What is the fundamental difference in belief then, between the Catholic and Protestant church - in that, what issue(s) are the most hotly debated ones between these two sub-christian groups ?
is it wrong to be praying and reverring a statue of the virgin mary ? is this 'christian like' behaviour or deluded behaviour as one of my jehova witness friend's, Mathew tells me ?
He also tells me that Jesus died on a 'log' and not a cross - at which point I finished my hot choc and told him i had to get back to work (cos he was getting WAY too into it...).
So thats what I think, I think the Virgin Mary is revered in Catholic places of worship and that in protestant churches you will never find any kind of statue of Christ, Mary or a cross with a crucified Jesus on it.
do correct me and verse me on this one if u think I'm ill informed.
1) its what I undrestand, or percieve to be - is this the case ?
No. You will find icons in various Orthodox sects and (I believe) statues in certain Anglican and Lutheran churches and specific Orthodox sects (but not Eastern Orthodox).
2) I hear that Madonna (mary, mother of Jesus) is revered highly by Catholics across the world, and that the Protestant church prohibits or discourages idolatry of any sort, if it can be helped - hence why they only have plain crosses (without a crucified Jesus on them) and NO statues of Mary.
This is only *generally* true. Most large Protestant sects do prohibit these types of statues for these reasons - but not all do.
3) What is the fundamental difference in belief then, between the Catholic and Protestant church
(Sigh) The problem with this question is that there is no "Protestant Church". There are, instead, literally hundreds of Protestant churches - each with its own set of doctrines that differ from the doctrines of all the *other* Protestant sects. Asking for the differences between the Roman Catholic Church and Protestants is like asking for the differences between oranges and all other fruits. You can't compare 1 to 100 unless those 100 are **all** similar in ways that are different from the 1. This is not the situation with Protestants.
The most hotly-debated issue depends on the Protestant sect. Some think full-immersion baptism is the most important. Some think *infant* baptism is the most important. Some think the authority of the bible is the most important. Some think "faith alone" is the most important. Etc. etc. etc. When you are dealing with so many comparisons (each Protestant sect with the Roman Catholic Church), there is no one primary issue.
4) is it wrong to be praying and reverring a statue of the virgin mary ?
Yes - but Roman Catholics are strictly prohibited from doing this in their doctrine. In my opinion, what you describe *does* occur (I have seen examples on TV in Mexico and Bolivia) - but, generally speaking, Roman Catholics who are well-educated in their faith know that such practices are not permitted.
5) He also tells me that Jesus died on a 'log' and not a cross
This is probably accurate. At the time, crucifixion appears to have normally been performed without a crossbar (which was used later in the Roman Empire). However, there is no way to tell for *certain*. The wording in the bible, though, suggests that there was no crossbar.

I would also like to find a photo of it. Apparently my husband's ancestor was responsible for this and we just recently found out. I know it was carved in Germany and brought to Canada. I do not know who did the carving and why.
I suggest you contact the parish directly.
With love in Christ.
Growing up in a Catholic country, I have never understood why all the virgin Mary statues are so mournful and sad.Why can't Mary be portrayed as happy or joyful?Maybe Mary is meant to be seen as serene?
The artist tradition in Medieval europe was to create a image of comfort.
if you can imagine a time of high infant mortality, then an image of a mother who knew her son was going to die, would be of some comfort - because - as the rhetoric went, - god spared you from the knowledge, that you child was going to die so soon.
So the tradition of that pose was established, and continues to this day.
if she is just a regular person like the rest of us ( christian belief ) whats the big deal? And why don't " Christian " churches have statues?
Being the mother of Jesus Christ has its privileges

How can you be an artist when you're a busy mom or dad who doesn't have much time to write novels or paint pictures or compose sonatas? This is the dilemma for the beauty-lover who wants to help build a culture of life but just doesn't have time.
What can be done is to try to make our homes our art, for our families.
Please don't imagine that perfection lies outside the margins of these photographs. When I share images and thoughts, it's not to erect an ideal standard, but to share what inspires me.
quot;Thieves Steal Bronze Virgin bMary/bquot; - Matt Neace, Jr.
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) -- Thieves may have to take an awkward trip to the confessional. A bronze statue of the Virgin Mary was lifted from a Catholic church in Newport Beach. Police Lt. Craig Fox said the 4-to-5 foot statue was pried from its base on the front of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church on Friday night. The rendering of the praying Madonna by renowned Mexican sculptor Victor Salmones is worth an estimated $30,000. A private donor gave it to the church eight years ago. Fox said investigators believe the statue was taken for its recycling value. He says police have arrested no suspects. Fox called stealing from a church "pretty tacky."
