Where can I find the story of Virgin Mary statue at Saint Bonafice Catholic Church in Ontario Canada?
A Gentle Touch

I would also like to find a photo of it. Apparently my husband's ancestor was responsible for this and we just recently found out. I know it was carved in Germany and brought to Canada. I do not know who did the carving and why.

I suggest you contact the parish directly.

Question about the catholic church after seeing the movie Angels and Demons?
DSC02422 St Louis Cathedral angel

Ok I saw Angels and Demons and I just want to know. Is the Catholic church really like that? Because the movie had a lot of history of the church and they have a crappy past. Also in Rome do statues and things really point to stuff like that?

NOPE.

Dan Brown takes events from multiple centuries and portrays them as happening all at once. He takes statues which were not even there at the time he proposes, built by the people he says sculpted them, and in many cases, pointing in the wrong direction, coupled with some of his own conjecture and fiction and weaves ALL of that into a story that to some, seems plausible.

Discovery channel, who is by no means "pro-catholic" did a great show on debunking it. I only caught the last 6 minutes of it and in those 6 minutes they debunked just about EVERYTHING in the movie.

Galileo was not part of the illuminati, it didn't exist during his time.
Some of the statues point in the wrong direction.
The Obalisk wasn't in the center of the courtyard until like the 19th century or something like that.
AND the Catholic church doesn't try to repress science. Never did. In the past it tried to repress heresy and errors, which it thought certain scientific principles WERE, but it is not like it tried to repress what it knew to be true or something.

If you listen to Dan Brown, the author of those books, he waffles back and forth between claiming the books are pure fiction, to trying to say they "provoke honest dialogue" or are "thought provoking" If that were the case, he wouldn't mix fact and fiction and confuse the hell out of everyone.

The facts are that the Catholic church is the largest non-governmental provider of health care, education and relief aid in the world.
It runs Universities that have Medical programs.
It runs over 600 hospitals in the US alone, all of which use science.
It protected a lot of human knowledge from being destroyed during dark ages.
St. Isadore of Spain, a Catholic Priest, was responsible for creating hundreds of libraries throughout Spain and France.
The Father of modern Genetics is Gregory Mendel.. a Catholic Priest
The first person to use Hubble's work to propose the "big bang" theory, was a Catholic priest by the name of Lemaitre (although Hoyle coined the term)
It was the FIRST Christian denomination to openly say that Evolution was a valid theory to explain the creation of life on this planet, though it doesn't say it is the only theory, it doesn't contradict the belief in God.

PLEASE don't get your information about Catholicism from Dan Brown's books or anyone who references him. Dan Brown himself, says it is a work of fiction. Non-Catholic historians pick both his movies apart to pieces.

IF you shouldn't get your knowledge of physics from the movies...nor should you get your knowledge of Catholicism from Angels and Demons or The Davinci Code

How do you feel about the Catholic Church?
DSC02416 St Louis Cathedral angel

i feel that the catholic church is a rediculously humiliating religious group to god and people. thecombine and seperated certain comandments so that there are still ten. don't think its still wrong though. in the bible it states that we are not to worship or pray anyone or anything but god. yet in the catholic church the have statues of saints and jesus and mary. and they pray to all those statues on their knees. then in the prayers i hear, "mary queen of apostles, saint vincent pallotti, pray for us". thats not praying to god. and the who confession thing is retarded. i refuse to ask gods forgiveness through a man. to do so would be the same as if i committed a crime against some one and asked a friend that we both knew to apologize to that person for me. the church has started its wars, it has had scams and deciet and there have been several popes that had sexual affairs with womeen( good news though the took that more seriously so now they go after boys).what do you think?

You can define them as a cult:

Christian cults are "those religious groups who used (possibly exclusively) non-standard translations of the Bible, put additional revelation on a similar or higher level than the Bible, or had beliefs and/or practices deviant from those of traditional Christianity." (Wikipedia)

Why are the statues in the Catholic church covered during Lent?
Pieta

I went to mass this morning and saw that the statues throughout the church were covered in marron-colored drapes. Why are they covered?

In many churches, to veil the crucifix and the statues of the saints as soon as Lent began; in order to excite the faithful to a livelier sense of penance, they were deprived of the consolation which the sight of these holy images always brings to the soul.

  • Special Year Dedicated for Priests

While we all have a participation in the common priesthood of the faithful by reception of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation [Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist], the ministerial priesthood is the focus of the Year for Priests. We strive to deepen our knowledge of Christ’s intention when He instituted the Ordained Priesthood at the Last Supper. This deeper knowledge is meant for the priest to rediscover and grow with more intensity in his life. The whole church is called to understand and appreciate the need for ministerial priesthood. Without the Ministerial Priest, there is no Eucharist, no church. The Holy Father points out four dimensions. These are ecclesial, communional, hierarchical, and doctrinal. However, I can best summarize by stating what I ask the first Communion students....
