My professor wants us to write a 12 page essay on the topic and any help with symbols would be greatly appreciated. I need this for a ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH as I am at a Roman Catholic University.
What rituals are special to this celebration of first communion?
I can give you a little help, but if this is for a twelve page paper, you're really going to want to do a lot of additional research. Are there a lot of symbols unique to FIRST communion? Some of the symbols for communion in the Roman Catholic Church:
White clothes: purity, innocence
Blessing with holy water: Baptism, rebirth
Priest's stole: patience
Priest's chasuble: charity
Images of bread/wheat and wine/grapes: the Eucharist
Washing of hands: interior purification
Breaking of the bread: unity (one bread is shared among many)
Mixing water with the wine: How blood and water flowed from Christ's side

This is not to run Catholics down.
I asked a question earlier & one answer said the Catholic church is the true religion because it was the first Christian religion.
Does being the first or even the biggest automatically make the Roman Catholic's the true religion ?
There must be more to it than that.
The Bible itself foretold that there would be a great falling away or apostasy [2Thess 2:3] and it also foretold that the true knowledge would become abundant in the time of the end. - Daniel 12:4
What does that tell you? Doesn't that indicate that the first, oldest and biggest would most likely be the one filled with the results of that great apostasy? And when it said the true knowledge would become abundant during the time of the end doesn't that indicate that a smaller group would be formed that would be used by God and have his favor?
Broad and spacious is the road to destruction says Matthew 7:13,14. Does it not seem that one of the biggest would be the least likely to be found on the road that is narrow and cramped with few finding it?
Even if they were first, BEING FIRST DOES NOT MAKE THEM THE TRUE CHURCH if they were part of the great apostasy. In a way what actually happened is a parallel of what took place with the Jews. They were God's chosen people (equivalent of the true church) but they rejected Christ and they no longer are the true religion. The original Christian church did the same thing. They allowed pagan customs and beliefs to be mixed with the teachings of Christ and adulterated it and so while they were used by God down through the ages to some degree, he rejected them as the time of the end approached just as the Jewish people were rejected by him earlier, and true Christianity began to be restored.
Even the Catholic Encyclopedia says this:
"Various other signs are spoken of as preceding or ushering in the end, as a great apostasy (II Thess., ii, 3sqq.), or falling away from faith or charity (Luke xviii, 8; xvii, 26; Matt., xxiv, 12), the reign of Antichrist, and great social calamities and terrifying physical convulsions.”—Volume 5, page 533. So they recognize that this apostasy was foretold but either they don't recognize themselves as being part of it or they feel that through confession they can continue to be forgiven without having to make any changes. Sort of a once saved always saved self-righteous attitude. It didn't work for the Jews and it won't for any other "Christian" religions that are part of the great apostasy. The problem is not limited to Catholics.
My friend has been considering to attend to a Roman Catholic Church's mass for the very first time. Obviously, since she has never visited a Roman Catholic Church before, she was not baptised nor confirmed. In her first visit, what should she prepare or bring, so that she would not feel awkward by making a crucial mistake?
Just do like all the others in church but at the end, don't go for communion. Only baptized Catholics can have communion.
I am doing a paper for school and I cannot seem to find out which Catholic church was the first one built in the 13 colonies. Appriciate the help everyone.
I would guess it's in Maryland, as that was settled by Catholics, mostly. I'll see what I can find.
Edit: Yes, it was in southern Maryland, built by Jesuits in the 1630s. Here's a link to a story from the Washington Post, or at least it claims to be from the Post.

Esmereld, the question is about a Catholic church. The Pilgrims and the people in Jamestown were most definitely NOT Catholic. You might want to brush up on your history a bit.
i'm doing a project thing and i need to know who Jesus made
the first leader of the catholic church.
For Roman Catholics, it is Peter. There's a passage in the Bible which tell that Jesus said to Peter that it is upon this rock that the church was built. (Don't know the passage, sorry). RC claimed that this rock is Peter. Hence they said that Peter is the first Pope. The first head of the Church after Jesus died. However, most historians agree that there is no definite "first leader" of the church since early Christian congregations are independent from each other. Eventually, the Clergy and Laity distinctions arose and some Clergymen were able to put their fame more than the fame of others. In the end, it is the head clergy of Rome, or the bishop of Rome which outlasted all other clergymen. He then became the first Pope as accepted by historians.
(I've read it a long time ago. Sorry, I can't remember the names and dates. Just do some research on your own.)
*note: Laity = non-Clergy = ordinary followers

St Francis is a saint normally associated with peaceful, eremetic living and an overwhelming empathy for the animal kingdom. He is invoked in matters to do with stewardship, climate change and all things green. But an innocuous St Francis weekend organised by a London Catholic church has turned into an interfaith battle over what is and is not deemed to be politically correct.
As we report, Camden council is reconsidering whether to allow its libraries and social centres to display a poster advertising a weekend of climate change events organised by the local Roman Catholic parish church, Our Lady Help of Christians. However, the council did ban the poster. The council does not advertise anything of a religious nature, for fear of offending religious sensibilities. The St Francis poster was deemed to be in breach of these rules, even though the Muslims who own the corner shop frequented by one of the organisers have happily put the posters up there.

We can believe what we choose. We are answerable for what we choose to believe. — Venerable John Henry Newman
I am not ashamed to admit that I am not a devout Catholic. You can say, a Cafeteria Catholic . Ah, I can just imagine my dear departed dad worried about my eternal salvation. Is that what you call it? I believe in God, though. I pray and meditate a lot. Praying and meditating are ways to take care of my spirit and it is not necessarily connected to organized religion. I try to live a meaningful life by being of service to others. But I don’t attend sunday mass except Christmas day or Easter Sunday. Does that make me a sinful person? I will let God be the judge.
I can go on and on why I choose to be a Cafeteria Catholic but my biggest peeve is the politics within the church itself. I met Father Robert Reyes of the Parokya sa Web for the first time last night. He is a Catholic priest known for his social and political activism. At the peak of his protest activities against the Arroyo’s government, he was advised by the Catholic Church to take an indefinite leave. In short, he was told to shut up.
