For those who belong to the catholic church in england, does this make you feel less English ?

Does being Catholic in England make you feel less English ? Possibly because the state religion is Church of England or the fact that a Catholic cannot be King or Queen of the country ?
Serious answers only

Can you have a church of england christening in a catholic church?

Some of my friends have booked a catholic church so their daughter can be christened, they've sent out their invitations to friends and have just asked me to contact the 'Father' or vicar to let him know that they want a church of england service.

I've told them that I didn't think it would be possible as they are different religions but just wanted to check first. Thanks xx

One cannot book "a catholic church" for anything, they can probably book the parish centre for the function but the church itself cannot be rented out.
A catholic priest has no religious authority to perform an anglican ceremony.

was the church of england a catholic church in the 1600's?

I also want to know if the majority of the english people belonged to that church.

It used to be Catholic, but after the King slept with the Queens maid servant he was excommunicated from the Catholic Church and made up his own Church. Church of England. Which everyone was trying to get away from, till good ol Columbus discovered the Americas.

How much does it cost to marry in a Catholic church in England?

I know it probably depends on the city, size of church etc but an average idea would be helpful.

Is a donation also required? I've read between £100-£200 is the norm for this.

We would just like the wedding ceremony in the church, and the reception and evening do would take place in a hotel elsewhere.

Thank you!
Has anybody got married in Derby, England? Or nearby areas in midands??

It depends on the church and location, same as the US. A NYC church wedding is going to be much more expensive than a rural church.
Also, the church may require you to decorate with flowers as well.
Check into any pre-marriage classes the church may require before the nuptials.
Good luck!

If you are Church of England, are you considering becoming a Catholic ?

Now that the pope has made way for Anglicans to convert easier into the Catholic church, are you considering it ? Do you think it is a good or bad idea ?

For those who thought it was rude of the Pope to offer, I offer a brief history:

In 2007, 400,000 Anglicans formally requested for the opportunity to rejoin the Catholic Church:
http://www.thefloridacatholic.org/rop/20 08_rop/2008_roparticles/20080710_rop_tra ditional_anglicans.php

The Catholic Church is just responding to this and other requests from Anglican groups and individuals. This is well thought out and planned pastoral concern and action.

There are already over 20 different Catholic Churches that make up the worldwide Catholic Church.

In addition to the Latin Rite (Roman) Catholic Church, the Eastern Rite Catholic Churches are in full communion with the Pope, and are part of the same worldwide Catholic Church.

Eastern Rite Catholic Churches include:

Alexandrian liturgical tradition
• Coptic Catholic Church
• Ethiopic Catholic Church

Antiochian (Antiochene or West-Syrian) liturgical tradition
• Maronite Church http://www.bkerkelb.org/
• Syrian Catholic Church
• Syro-Malankara Catholic Church http://www.syromalankara.org/

Armenian liturgical tradition:
• Armenian Catholic Church http://www.armeniancatholic.org/

Chaldean or East Syrian liturgical tradition:
• Chaldean Catholic Church
• Syro-Malabar Church http://www.smcim.org/

Byzantine (Constantinopolitan) liturgical tradition:

• Albanian Byzantine Catholic Church
• Belarusian Greek Catholic Church
• Bulgarian Greek Catholic Church
• Byzantine Church of the Eparchy of Križevci
• Greek Byzantine Catholic Church
• Hungarian Greek Catholic Church
• Italo-Albanian Catholic Church
• Macedonian Greek Catholic Church
• Melkite Greek Catholic Church http://www.pgc-lb.org/english/index.shtm l
• Romanian Church
• Russian Byzantine Catholic Church
• Ruthenian Catholic Church
• Slovak Greek Catholic Church
• Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church

Now into this beautiful mix of many cultures and traditions (but one shared doctrine), something like the Anglican Catholic Church will arise. Here is Pope Benedict's new Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum Coetibus: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedi ct_xvi/apost_constitutions/documents/hf_ ben-xvi_apc_20091104_anglicanorum-coetib us_en.html

Even Anglican primate Archbishop Rowan Williams wrote, “in the light of recent discussions with senior officials in the Vatican, I can say that this new possibility is in no sense at all intended to undermine existing relations between our two communions or to be an act of proselytism or aggression. It is described as simply a response to specific enquiries from certain Anglican groups and individuals wishing to find their future within the Roman Catholic Church.” http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.ph p?n=17440

  • The Universal Mind: STRANGE STORY OF THE QUEEN AND THE CHILDREN ...

I am a survivor of the Kamloops and Mission Indian residential schools, both run by the Roman Catholic church. I suffered terrible tortures there at the hands especially of Brother Murphy, who killed at least two children. I witnessed him throw a child off a three story balcony to her death. He put me on a rack and broke some of my bones, in the Kamloop school basement, after I tried running away. In September 1964 when I was 12 years old, I was an inmate at the Kamloops school and we were visited by the Queen of England and Prince Phillip. I remember it was strange because they came by themselves, no big fanfare or nothing. But I recognized them and the school principal told us it was the Queen and we all got given new clothes and good food for the first time in months the day before...

HJ Live! » Christianity: The First Three Thousand Years

In the Introduction, you refer to yourself as a “candid friend” of Christianity, and remark that your days growing up in the rectory are a pleasure to remember. You apparently are disillusioned with the Christian Church as a whole. Would you mind giving us a little background on how you went from embracing dogma to having doubts?

I wouldn’t actually say that I was disillusioned with the Church.  I’ve always had an affection for its institutions, and the Church of England is after all my tribe; you don’t reject your tribe lightly.  Indeed in recent months I have found myself fiercely defending the Anglican tradition against ill-judged assaults on it, when its bishops have on the whole kept silent.  What I would rather say is that I have come to view with grave suspicion ultimate claims to authority, particularly those made on behalf of the Bible (the Bible itself hardly makes any claims to authority).  This started many years ago when I was an undergraduate at Cambridge University in the early 1970s.  There around the age of twenty, I happily came to terms with being gay, a fact which I had realised from an early age.
