The Roman Catholic Institution in their Canon laws state: quot;If any one shall deny that the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity ...
The collection plates are full. The Catholic Church has millions for lawsuits, but what don't they have is any money to give to the poor people of Mexico ? Why want the Cathlolic's take care of each other ? There are more than enough members in America to supply any help to any families in Mexico who might need this help without them enduring very much hardship.
The Catholic Church has for years been getting bolder about spreading their agenda but they still hide behind their tax-exempt status. I think that any church no matter what denomination should automatically lose their tax-exempt status if it can be proved that they have broken the law. Hidding illegals and giving them aide qualifies as breaking the law.
I asked this question early today and received only the dictionay explanation and not the history.

Thank you all.

The earliest surviving usage of the term "Catholic" can be found in St. Ignatius of Antioch's epistle to the Smyrnaeans (c. 107 AD):
"Wherever the bishop appear, there let the multitude be; even as wherever Christ Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church."
As you have already been told, "Catholic" means universal. In Catholicism, each diocese is also a Church, and the whole Church is the Catholic Church, or the universal Church. We Catholics actually do use the term "universal Church" when we want to distinguish something that pertains to the entire Catholic Church as opposed to a diocesan Church (for example, there are ten Holy Days of Obligation, aside from Sundays, on the universal Church calendar; a diocesan Church calendar will differ.)
1) Baptism, which the Roman Catholic Church teaches removes original sin while infusing it with sanctifying grace.
2) Penance, in which one confesses his/her sins to a priest.
3) The Eucharist, considered the reception and consumption of the actual body and blood of Christ.
4) Confirmation, a formal acceptance into the church along with special anointing of the Holy Spirit.
5) Anointing of the sick, performed by a priest using oil, anoints the sick person´s forehead and hands with oil; associated not only with bodily healing but with forgiveness of sins. When performed on a dying person it is called Extreme Unction (last rights, final anointing).
6) Holy Orders, the process by which men are ordained to clergy.
7) Matrimony, which provides special grace to a couple.
* The doctrine of Seven Sacraments affirmed 1439
Okay guys: It appears that you do not know what the word "sacrament" means. So here is the meaning.
In order to qualify as a sacrament, the Roman Catholic Church states that it must meet the following three criteria:
a) the external, that is a sensibly perceptibly sign of sanctifying grace,
b) the conferring of sanctifying grace,
c) the institution by God or, more accurately, by the God-Man Jesus Christ. Thus, sacraments are not merely a symbol, but are believed to actually confer "sanctifying grace" upon the recipient.
The Roman Catholic Church believes that all of their seven sacraments were instituted by Christ Himself.
More info?
1) Baptism, which the Roman Catholic Church teaches removes original sin while infusing it with sanctifying grace.
-
As long as we are in the flesh we are separated from God. Baptism does not remove this state of existence.
Romans 3:
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past,
-
Outward sign of Grace within is a false theology as it is taught. Grace within is the baptism of the Holy Spirit not the baptism of repentance. The church blurs the lines of what is being stated. Water baptism is not the baptism of Jesus nor is it an outward sign. If a person is baptized in the Holy Spirit it shows in who they are from then forth.
Acts 1
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
Water baptism has nothing to do with it.
-
2) Penance, in which one confesses his/her sins to a priest.
-
Penance is not what is meant by the words of Christ Jesus. The word used is μετάνοια - metanoia. This is a change in the mind. Not confession or reconciliation.
Luke 15:
7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.
-
Luke 5:21
And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
-
So the Church in Rome establishes itself as God but is not God. Jesus is God therefore can and does forgive sin. This is because of metanoia, a change of heart/mind, not because of confession or baptism.
-
Confessing our sins to one another is correct the offices as set up by the church in Rome is an addition to scripture.
-
3) The Eucharist, considered the reception and consumption of the actual body and blood of Christ.
Transubstantiation the eating blood and flesh of a human is added by the church in Rome and most likely (without further time consuming research) comes from one of the many ""feasts"" that Christians were admonished to not participate. The Roman church has be well known to alter and absorb traditions of the area they exist, just renamed the time and feasts or celebration to align is someway with cherry picked bible verses and obtuse exegesis.
-
The word "is" was and should be today understood to be the word "represents".
For example in Mattew 13:37-39 Jesus taught: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels”.
Jesus uses for of 'to be' (is and are) to mean “represents” or “symbolizes”.
The sower is the Son of man, meaning of course, that the sower represents the Son of man. tares and good seed do not turn into children the teaching is ridiculous to the point of absurd.
-
4) Confirmation, a formal acceptance into the church along with special anointing of the Holy Spirit.
Confirmation is to join and agree to the beliefs. This is completely unbiblical. Either a person is or is not Christian. There is no conferring of the Holy Spirit by a confirmation process nor by the baptism of water..
John 20:22
After he had said this, he breathed on the disciples and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit.
Being a Christian
The baptism in the Holy Spirit is more than classes and belonging to a group. It is a full dependence on the Spirit for guidance and strength in all circumstances. As Jesus stated by every Word of God not by bread.
"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control" (Galatians 5:22).
-
5) Anointing of the sick, performed by a priest using oil, anoints the sick person´s forehead and hands with oil; associated not only with bodily healing but with forgiveness of sins. When performed on a dying person it is called Extreme Unction (last rights, final anointing).
-
James 5:14
Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
and
The oil doesn't heal, Jesus does.
Nowhere is the office of priest given to a certain few.
-
6) Holy Orders, the process by which men are ordained to clergy.
-
About 200 A.D. two of the church's leaders, Hippolytus and Tertullian, revived the notion of a "special priesthood," with that title to be worn only by the clergy. By the end of the fourth century that office had been formalized, and the "laity" accepted second-class status in ministry.
-
7) Matrimony, which provides special grace to a couple.
The marriage bond is sacred.
The Catholic church has decided that the Virgin Mary had revealed herself to a girl back in the 1600's. How can this be possible? I haven't seen any evidence in the Bible that says that mankind becomes spirit right after death. Other than Jesus, no flesh and blood person has ever been recorded to truly have come back from the dead as a spirit. Demons have "posed" as those who have died, such as the examples of the deceptions of Ahab and Saul. Can anyone supply some Bible verses against or for a current spiritual resurrection? I can't find any that say we are risen in spiritual form before the Messiah's return.
Here's the article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24454559
Catholic Crusader: Other than the Catholic church themselves, no expert has ever been able to link the Catholic church to Peter. There is more proof that Simon Magus created it. The "universal" church was around before Jesus's crucifixion, yet it wasn't mentioned in the Bible at all. The Catholic church has tried to stay as universal as possible by incorporating customs of the cultures they try to absorb. Each country I've traveled to had it's own unique customs that were somehow part of Jesus's church, yet Pagan born. How can a church ignore God's warnings about Paganism and tell it's followers that it's okay to follow Pagan customs, as long as they are incorporated with God?
Farsight: We will know his "people" by their fruits. Not spirits. You're logic tries to say that Satan can't do good, or that what seems good. He was able to deceive a third of the angels. He can deceive us quite easily. Satan is incredibly intelligent, to say that this event is "good" because of the fruits can be a bad idea. We saw what happened to Saul when he believed that the dead were talking to him. How long until we see the after-effects of a society believing that the dead are speaking to them?
Marty: Moses and Elijah? That was a "vision", not real. There are all sorts of interpretations of that scripture. But Moses and Elijah weren't there. Some even believe that Elijah returned as John the Baptist and that Moses will return as one of the witnesses during the Apocalypse. These are still physical resurrections.
Marty, I've read what you posted before. However it goes along with what I said before, no one outside of the Catholic church can prove that Jesus started the Catholic church, or that Peter was the first pope. You used a Catholic church reference. Other than Scientologists, no one can prove that Scientology is valid, so it must be true, right?
Wolfeyblade... It's rather ironic actually. At the beginning of your comment I thought you were trashing the Catholic church. Controlling God is what the church has appeared to do. Deciding who is a saint and who isn't, deciding when the earth is flat and when it's round, etc.
p.s. The witch was scared because she was a fraud. She most likely had never had a spirit appear to her. She was also a medium. Why would God speak to someone who seeks out demons? And why do spirits live in the earth? The "Samuel poser" came out of the earth. Does Mary lay in the earth but then wake up and hand out visions too? Remember that the spirit didn't ever say he was Samuel. Saul said he was Samuel, and he didn't even see him in the vision. And why didn't Samuel just appear to the both of them?
p.s. I don't support Martin Luther's rebellion either, so don't put me in the same boat as him.
Farsight, actually I do care. I'm just waiting for a scripture that let's us know that we do wander around as spirits right after death. I haven't found any viable ones that could possible contend with those that warn us that we basically become "worm meat" until the Messiah's return. Still, I see none. Instead I'm frustrated because I'm being given exactly what I said I didn't want... Catholic written proofs and no scriptures backing up this belief.
I care because I don't like Satan running around deceiving all of us. He uses the greatest recipe for deception, lies with enough truth to make it seem like "the truth". I truly apologize if I come across as someone trying to attack your religion, I just want to understand why a church can just make a decision to do such a thing that, in my mind, clearly goes against the teachings of the Bible.
Cristoig... I disagree with you, but respect such an in-depth answer. However, can you explain what is actually "righteous" about the church trying to incorporate other customs with God's customs? Aaron's sons died for doing this very thing. Look at just a few passages showing God's distaste for Pagan customs and tell me that this practice is now fine with God. I wish I understood how a God who doesn't change, changes....
Isaiah 57:8
Isaiah 2:6
Lamentations 1:10
Zephaniah 1:4
Mathew 6:7
1 Corinthians 10:7
1 Corinthians 10:20
1 Corinthians 12:2
1 Peter 4:3
.... and many more. I can't find any that say it's fine to incorporate Pagan customs, or any other for that matter, into God's church. Can you show me some?
Wolfey... I'm not a protestant. I've looked at the answers that you and Marty both have posted on this site. Wow do you both hate protestants. Marty even goes so far as to say that Protestants aren't Christians. That's one of the most hateful and arrogant things someone could say about another split on their church. Besides, it's ignorant. Pope Benedict said that anyone who observes the Sunday worship, Christmas, and Easter is a Catholic. Listen to your Pope, because you both are trashing your own brethren.
Wolfey... I'M NOT A PROTESTANT!!!! BEATING THEM WITH YOUR CATHOLIC SHOE ISN'T GOING TO ANSWER MY QUESTION.
Karenita. Just another person not answering my question. By the way, thanks for giving more literature about Pius. He was a model Catholic wasn't he?
cristoig... That's going to take awhile. For now, look over this definition of Pagan. You may answer your own question without me if you just look at the customs. Too bad this still isn't answering my question.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionar y/pagan
Farsight.. The Bible is God's word. I look to it if I need to understand something. If God's word goes against the teachings of a church, and no verses are for it, then I grow very suspicious of it. I also don't believe that ANY human, aside from Christ, ever has risen to heaven. Of course, there is still one other explanation for all of this. The girl in question could very well have been a liar. That does happen now and then.
Wolfey... I just read over your answer again. Are you saying that the answer I deserve is one without God's word?
One pagan custom is Sunday worship. First I will show you what the Catholic church says about its own custom, seeing as using the church instead of God's word is the custom around here.
James Cardinal Gibbons, The Faith of our Fathers, 88th ed., pp. 89.
"But you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday, a day which we never sanctify."
Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism 3rd ed., p. 174.
"Question: Have you any other way of proving that the Church has power to institute festivals of precept?
"Answer: Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her-she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday, the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority."
John Laux, A Course in Catholic studies.
And more...
Catholic Virginian Oct. 3, 1947, p. 9, art. "To Tell You the Truth."
"For example, nowhere in the Bible do we find that Christ or the Apostles ordered that the Sabbath be changed from Saturday to Sunday. We have the commandment of God given to Moses to keep holy the Sabbath day, that is the 7th day of the week, Saturday. Today most Christians keep Sunday because it has been revealed to us by the[Roman Catholic] church outside the Bible."
And why I won't follow these customs...
A true Christian does not lie and does not associate with lies, but seeks after truth in all aspects of life. If we live with a little lie now, then it is much easier to live with a worse lie later. God is emphatic on this point: A liar will not enter the Kingdom of God (Revelation 21:7-8).
Christmas is the most famous pagan holiday, and it's customs are even mentioned in the Bible.
Jeremiah 7:18
Jeremiah 10:2-4
But I suppose one Pagan holiday isn't enough.
I'll have to give some more stuff soon. But there's more about easter, unless my point is proven. I'm getting bogged down here.
Wolfey.... ridiculous... like your answers. Let's not answer the question. Let's just rant on about your Catholic shoe. Yes, this has become ridiculous. Ridiculous, like your belief that if it isn't supported by the Bible, then it's faith you are going by. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. But understand that I'm angry due to ignorant answers, not because you don't agree with me. I've given out plenty of "best answers" to people I didn't agree with, but they were able to build a good argument with biblical evidence against my claims. I don't worship His book, I worship him. The Bible is God's word, and I see NOWHERE where it says that we can ignore it. May God forgive all of us for our ignorance.
Farsight: It doesn't say he was risen up, it says God took him. Moses and Enoch are the two people who were righteous that God himself ended their lives. They are the only two who where righteous yet died by the hands of God. They didn't ascend into heaven. (Genesis 5:21-24). The Catholic church may have something written in their Bible, but I assure you that nothing in the original Hebrew comes close to saying "ascended into heaven". Enoch and Moses make for an interesting Bible study, but sorry, they weren't ascended into heaven. God took them both, but they didn't ascend into heaven.
I find it interesting how this question hasn't yet been answered. The reason why? There are no scriptures that say that the dead become spirits or can be contacted before Jesus's return. None. Samuel, Moses, and Elijah are subject to interpretation, but God's word is quite a bit more powerful than what a "medium" says and what a quick vision might tell any follower. If the dead did truly become spirits right after death, then why would Jesus's resurrection be special? Why weren't Elijah and Moses ascending to heaven afterwards like Jesus? It's a good question, but you need to do some of your own research (although I think you feel you know the answer anyway).
I don't understand why you have to use Catholic literature and the Bible to defend your stand on Pagan customs. Maybe people should just answer the question. And the answer, best to my knowledge is this:
There aren't any scriptures specifically saying that we, including Mary, become spirits immediately after death. None at all. There is none that supports prayer to the dead. There is none that supports summoning the dead. The religions that believe in these customs are not of God, they are of the mimic himself. Satan has perverted God's customs and rituals and made them his own. Man is just following the reasoning of Satan instead of the word and knowledge of God. Remember, the word is good. It was with God in the beginning, and always will.

...Doing Church Supplies Shopping
Picking out church supplies can be a daunting task, but it doesnât have to be difficult. You can easily find great places where you can hunt and shop for church supplies.
However, before going further, letâs talk about what church supplies are.
There are several things that you can classify as necessary materials used in church.
It can be anything from the furniture, to the bulletin board, Sunday school items, Bibles, hymnals, the altar and even the pulpit.
It is basically anything that the church uses or needs for its ever day use or service. Even though it might not be thought of as significant, church furniture is one kind of supply that churches need.
