Did the sexual abuse cases in the Catholic church ever change your thoughts about the church?

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops convened a meeting in Dallas on June 12, 2002 to address the sex abuse scandal. However a Dallas Morning News article revealed nearly two-thirds of the bishops attending had themselves at one point covered for sexually abusive priests

Roman Catholics spent $615 million dollars on sex abuse cases in 2007

Do you think that things will ever change in the Catholic Church??? Do you think in the future the Vatican will start allowing priest to marry?

Do you know what I've had a problem with on this scandal? Why did the parents accept monetary payoffs, instead of insisting on criminal justice? I think this is the bigger scandal.

I don't know macker, maybe you should start your own question since you don't seem to have an answer for mine.

That happened in Ireland, which means no court is going to go against the Catholic church. You won't see a case against pedophile priests in Ireland, either.

How did the Roman Catholic Church abuse in the Dark Ages?
SA by the church

What did Clergy men do? What is the Shattering?
I already know about the Dark ages its just that I need to know what did the Catholic Church corrupt or abuse in the time of the dark ages.

Let's first clarify that the "the Dark Ages" refers to the early Medieval period, and the term was probably coined by secular humanist historians (like Petrarch) because of the lack of Latin literature and contemporary written history from this time. Thus, they viewed it as a period partly "in the dark."

Later, Protestant reformers began to propagandize that the Middles Ages were a time of darkness for another reason - corruption in the Church. Although there were some practices that needed reform (mainly a wealthy and indulgent clergy) the Church was (and still is) the voice of Christ on Earth, and her dogma needed no revision.

Now in this century we have modern revisionist historians who claim these times were "dark" because people were uneducated, dirty and diseased and just plain miserable living under a so-called oppressive Church.

But it is in the Middle Ages that the light of Christianity shone on pagan Europe. During this time the monasteries grew and thrived and contributed a wealth of information on science, history, botany and philosophy. The monks were also responsible for the preservation of the body of Greco-Roman literature we have today and take for granted.

Poetry and art flourished, as did major architectural achievements.

The Dark Ages could also be called "The Age of Faith." The flowering of Christianity brought hope and meaning to the lives of millions and the social kingship of Christ was close to being realized.

Peace be to you all+

How did the catholic church sex abuse scandal "erupt" in 2002?
SA by the church

The victims of the catholic church sex abuse scandal were keeping quiet for many years. I don't know the year it all started when someone decided to put an end to keeping "the secret". I am proud of the person who finally made this brave step forward. Everyone knows in their hearts, this abuse was happening for years and years, and I am not just talking about 20-30. I am talking 100's of years. Being forced into silence or feeling blame. Those in this church who committed this crime will pay the ultimate price.

How many men suing the Catholic Church for sexual abuse are lying?
Allegations of church-based sex abuse are mounting across Europe, including in Austria, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland. New abuse allegations have surfaced in Brazil, home of the world's largest Catholic population, thanks to a recent TV repo

Do you mean the gay men with greedy lawyers?

The real question would be:

What is the number of charges compared with the number of convictions.

How high can you stack the firewood? Public school teachers in New York City rape little kids at a rate 100% more than all clergy and you never hear any outcry. Witch hunts are so much more fun.

I'm glad they caught them. Serious reforms were the result. Until the public school systems adopts similar reforms, they will continue to rape our children.

  • Angie the Anti-Theist: Let#39;s Rip on the bCatholic Church/b

Let me start by saying that one of my very favorite people in the world, the woman I named "godmother" even though she technically wasn't one, was a devout Roman Catholic all her life. I try to let you know if I'm objecting to a theist, a group of theists, or a theist institution. Today, I'm gonna hate on the Vatican, and probably Phil Donahue. (That nozzle is asking for it.) Oh, and any Catholic who's still paying tithe. Now that the lame-ass disclaimer is out of the way, let's jump into the fun. Sure, it's almost old hat to talk about now. (Wow, did I really just use a 1930's expression in my 21st century blog? Why yes, I believe I did.) It's as if we're desensitized to the awfulness because it's so damn prevalent . To me that means we have two problems - the fact that priests molested...

On Sept. 1, 5th Judicial Circuit Court judge Randall R. Jackson overruled a motion to dismiss a civil sex abuse lawsuit against Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Joseph. It is also against the Pony Express District of the United Methodist Church in St. Joseph and the Columbia's Missouri Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, both of which are overseeing Methodist bodies. "This ruling is significant because it is the first time a Missouri court has held that a negligence case could be pursued against a church for sexual abuse," said Ken Chackes, the plaintiff's attorney, who has handled about 100 cases involving alleged sexual abuse involving the clergy. In earlier lawsuits, victims had to prove that the church knew the abuser was going to harm children and failed to...
