The greatest one that I know of is the orthodox do not recognize and acknowledge the authority of the bishop of Rome as the head of the church. That is what caused them to split up. The orthodox also permit their priests to marry. Other than that, the teachings are practically the same. The orthodox still have valid sacraments although they are in schism. That does not mean a Catholic is permitted to receive the sacraments from the orthodox. As they are in schism we are not permitted.

The purpose of this video is to help Protestant Christians and others develop a better understanding of the Roman Catholic Church, its history and ...
What was it like in the 15th century?
A summary of Catholic beliefs is contained in the Nicene Creed (from the year 325):
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father. Through Him all things were made. For us and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son, He is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
These beliefs have not changed.

We believe in One Almighty and everlasting God, creator of heaven and earth, we belive in One Lord Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. All three are in one and are the same substance as the Father. We believe that by the Holy Ghost Christ was concieved and born of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Under Pilate Christ endured passion and death and by His death He has saved us from and sin and then by His great resurrection gave us back the gifts and advantages lost by sin. Jesus sits at the right hand of the father and later will come to judge all men, living and dead. We belive in one Baptism, the communion of saints, resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. We have a particular devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary, looking to her as the greatest disciple. We believe also in her immaculate conception and her assumption into heaven, body and soul. We believe that the pope is the vicar of Christ and that anything relating to morals and beliefs that the pope proclaims is infallible. Through good deeds, repentance, and true love and faith in Christ and all people we all can attain heaven.
I am trying to find info on the Roman Catholic Church. I have looked for info on the beliefs and rituals for the it, but get confused while reading about it. I am not of that faith and do not know anyone who is. Anything is appreciated....
Sorry G, the philosophy is required for my degree! But I am a Christian, just not Catholic...still confused as to why they "worship" Mary...
May I suggest that you go to Catholic Answers at http://www.catholic.com and then look at the left sidebar: You will see many subjects. You can click on one and see tracts that will probably answer your questions. Also, the search engine will search 20 years worth of articles from "This Rock" magazine. There are a lot of great articles there too
Also, the"official" Catechism Of The Catholic Church is online at: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/enti retoc1.htm
This is a difficult document to read. (The book is about three inches thick!) But, there is a wealth of information there too if you take the time to learn how to navigate it.
Many people were unhappy with the character, practices, and beliefs of the Roman Catholic church. What were some of these?
Is it talking about how they couldn't have only one pope (Avignon Exile) because everyone was so confused they were deposing and electing them, or what exactly is it asking??
I don't know if you were talking about when the king was trying to get his wife devorced because the pope wouldn't do so in the first place. Or are you talking about the 95 thesis that Luther had written that technically caused Lutheranism? It could be both but the king seperated church in England creating his own power and causing others to go plus making the pope mad by electing his own pope and he was the head of church.

The Gallant Skeptic: The gall of the Roman Catholic Church knows ...
Raniero Cantalamessa on behalf of the Vatican is that the Catholic church itself is historically to blame for the existence of anti-semitism in the world. In fact, one could argue that anti-semitism is one of the greatest offenses committed by the Catholic Church since its inception. Furthermore, such an erroneous analogy dismisses the vile acts that have brought the critical eye of the world to rest upon the church in the first place. Whereas the Jews committed no crime to be worthy of the persecution that they were forced to endure historically, Catholics are being criticized for their ambivalent attitudes towards crimes that their clergy have committed against children. Their is a great gulf between being persecuted for belonging to a specific race or culture when...
