What aspects of American culture and society have and will continue to impact the American Catholic Church?

For example: competing belief systems, societal trends....

There is no American Catholic Church. Part of the Catholic Church is in the United States of America.

American popular culture is constantly bombarding Catholics and non-Catholics with intensive, not-so-forcible indoctrination, aimed at setting up worldly convictions and attitudes.

Popular culture comes at us from all directions including books, movies, TV, songs, advertisements, video games and even the Internet.

A few of the these immoral values include:
- Lust and Sex (outside of marriage)
- A disrespect for God and religion
- A disrespect for lawful authority
- A disrespect for our human dignity
- Envy, greed and consumerism
- Anger and Violence
- Drug abuse including smoking and alcohol
- Vanity, outside is more important than inside
- Prejudice and hate

With love in Christ.

Who is the most important Cardinal of the American Catholic Church?

thank you for that startling revelation of your immense stupidity, Mr. Curious!

why don't you answer some more questions about subjects that is PAINFULLY obvious you know nothing about?

what a moron

Do you see the formation of an "American Catholic Church" occuring in the near future...?

Do see a more liberal and less Dogmatic, Catholic Church emerging from American Roman Catholics. I just notice that Roman Catholics in America seem to be less "strict" in practicing the Dogma of the Church and was wondering if anyone sees a "America Catholic Church" forming.
To Mikeysmom's comment: The Holy See is tolerating quite a bit of changes in the way Catholic Churches and Catholics practice in America. Honestly I think the Holy See does not want to impose and incite outrage.

I see a lot of "Card Carrying Catholics"...but that applies to just about any other religion or denomination as well. People say they are, but don't follow the rules. Is that what you meant? But no, I don't see an American Catholic Church forming anytime soon...

American Catholic Church?

I'm not advertising or anything, but the AMERICAN Catholic Church allows married clergy and St. Francis is their patron saint. Logical, Spiritual, good works is more important than attending mass-has anyone ever heard of them? If it was 1600 they would be heretics..excommunicated tortured confessions squeezed out of them. .Married clergy...what's that about? Oh yeah billions in pedophilia lawsuits ..why not give married clergy a try. It's 2009 and what has happened since 1600? Oh yeh America happened. Discard all that negativity of the ROMAN catholic church and here's something for modern people.
Has ANYONE heard of them?
I have a diverse set of beliefs and am sympathetic to Catholics. I just think alot of people would find a home there and I'm trying to raise the awareness level, that's all, don't try to guess my motives.

I don't think there's any negativity in the Roman Catholic Church. Do you not tell your child not to cross the road without looking because it's negative? Or tell your child not to wait until marriage to have sex because it's negative? The Catholic Church is our teacher, it is her job to tell us what is okay and what is not, just as a parent would.

And yes, I've heard of them, but their Sacraments (except baptism) are not valid. A few priests split from the Roman Catholic Church and thus their ordination is not valid according to Catholicism and therefore they cannot perform the Mass, they are no different than the Episcopal Church or the Lutheran Church who copy the Catholic Mass, but cannot truly perform it or any of her Sacraments.

A Roman Catholic would not be able to attend an American Catholic Church (also known as the Independent Catholic Church) and fulfill their weekly obligation to attend Mass.

<St. Francis is their patron saint>>

Whom was a Roman Catholic and celibate priest, you do know this right? Or are you talking about a different St. Francis. But he was still a Roman Catholic and agreed completely with everything the Catholic Church taught and did. So using him as your paton Saint is a bit stupid.

<< Logical, Spiritual, good works is more important than attending mass>>

Nothing should be more important than attending Mass. It is in the Mass that we receive Jesus Christ, Body & Blood, Soul & Divinity. It is where we are taken back to the Sacrifice of Calvery and experience a taste of Heaven. Good works are certainly not more important than attending Mass. That is ridiculous!

<<If it was 1600 they would be heretics..excommunicated tortured confessions squeezed out of them.>>

In the 1600's there were still some married priests, it was still acceptable, though many priests were opting to remain celibate. And they are still heretics and they are excommunicated from the Roman Catholic Church, but don't try to bring in the Inquisition, people who were in the Inquisition were not tortured into confessing. Please read history first.

<<Oh yeah billions in pedophilia lawsuits ..why not give married clergy a try.>>

Because marriage has nothing to do with it. Most pedophilia cases come from married men: Fathers, Uncles and Step-fathers. And the highest clergy to be reported for sexual molesting was the Church of Christ, which HAS MARRIED PRIESTS!

So marriage has nothing to do with in, those who commit pedophilia are men who were not committed to their vows as priests in the first place. Those who are trying to live a God-fearing life do not commit such crimes.

<,It's 2009 and what has happened since 1600? Oh yeah America happened. Discard all that negativity of the ROMAN catholic church and here's something for modern people.>>

Again, it's only negative to you. Think about it, Jesus was negative because getting into Hell is a lot easier to get into Heaven and He warned us again and again because it's a real danger. And for us to get into Heaven, Jesus told us "Don't do this, don't do that, you're doing that wrong, no, don't do that" and so on. So I'll stay in HIS CHURCH and follow His teachings and not some man made religion.

<<I have a diverse set of beliefs and am sympathetic to Catholics. I just think al ot of people would find a home there and I'm trying to raise the awareness level, that's all, don't try to guess my motives.>>

The world is a lot easier than being a God-fearing person. I'm sure a lot of people would find a home there, but we're not looking for a home here on earth, we are looking for a Heavenly home and that's in the Roman Catholic Church for the Mass is bring Heaven to us on earth.

So, yeah, I've heard of them, but I'll remain where I am because I wish to receive the TRUE Sacraments, not just copies of themm.

    Alan,

I read Irenaeus posting and my impression was it was all over the Orthodox blogosphere , not necessarily the Catholic blogosphere. Just wanting to be exact.

I agree that Archbishop Pezzi was overly optimistic, but my thinking is that he’s basing it on previous dialogue with the Orthodox, not a prediction of the Hilarion-Kasper talks.

The bCatholic Church/b enters Maine#39;s marriage battle | The Bilerico b.../b

The Catholic Church is revving up for the ballot initiative in Maine. Does anyone think it's appropriate for the Church to be saying that a legal contract is defined by God? Notice the children being forced to participate in this ritual (after they complain about marriage being taught in schools !), as well as the, um, Church historian they interviewed who said that the Church's teachings aren't influenced by the changing times or by politics. Even for homophobes, these people have a stunning lack of self-awareness.

It's ironic, too, since the separation of church and state benefits Catholics. I don't know what delusion they're operating under, but if the government actually established a religion and enforced its rules, the US government would never pick Catholicism. They have as much to benefit from the separation of church and state as we do.
